Prosthetic rehabilitation of dental implants:
The Rehabilitation phase begins 3 to 6 months posterior to the implant surgery to allow the implant to fuse to the bone (osseointegration). This period of time depends on the area where the implant was placed, type of surgery, use of bone grafts, etc.
Once the implant is healed (integrated), there will be a small second surgical procedure to uncover the implant and place a healing cap. This will be left for 2 to 3 weeks to allow the soft tissue to heal around the healing cap. In other cases, specially in the anterior area we may place a provisional crown.
After this period, we start the process to make your final artificial crowns over the implant abutment (impressions, lab work, etc). These crowns can be fixed to the implant permanently (cemented) or screwed, so we can remove it eventually.
